Camptothecin (7689-03-4) is a natural product isolated from the Chinese Happy Tree, Camptotheca acuminate. It is an inhibitor of DNA topoisomerase I. Camptothecin binds irreversibly to the topoisomerase I /DNA complex preventing DNA re-ligation and generating permanent double strand breaks. Potent antitumor agent.
