A team at Toronto’s Hospital for Sick Children demonstrated that pharmacological ablation of senescent cells using Navitoclax (ABT-263, Focus Cat#10-3141) caused a rapid increase in neural precursor cell proliferation and neurogenesis. This treatment increased hippocampal neuron numbers and enhanced hippocampus-dependent spatial memory in mice. This reinvigoration of hippocampal neurogenesis has profound implications in neurodegenerative diseases.
