Azoramide (932986-18-0) is a modulator of the unfolded protein response (UPR).1 It improves endoplasmic reticulum (ER) protein folding and activates ER chaperone capacity to protect cells against ER stress. It displayed potent anti-diabetic activity in two mouse models by improving insulin sensitivity and pancreatic b cell function. Azoramide increased SERCA expression leading to enhanced calcium retention in the ER indicating calcium homeostasis as a possible mechanism for its anti-diabetic activity.
