G proteins

G proteins are fundamental signaling components of the cell. G proteins are GTPases, functioning as guanine nucleotide-binding and -hydrolyzing proteins. In the inactive state they are bound to GDP; when they bind GTP (in some cases facilitated by GPCRs), they become active, stimulating and amplifying myriad signaling pathways that ultimately regulate cell growth, differentiation, and migration.
