The 2021 Nobel Prize in Medicine was awarded to David Julius and Ardem Patapoutian because of their research on TRPV1 (Transient Receptor Potential Vanilloid 1) and other ion channels.
Resiniferatoxin (Cat#10-2103) is a terpenoid found in Resin spurge (Euphorbia resinifera). It is an ultrapotent TRPV1 agonist and is 1000 fold hotter than capsaicin on the Scoville scale. It also has very unique pharmacology at the TRPV1 channel compared to capsaicin. Resiniferatoxin continues to be a key tool for understanding how we sense heat and pain, and is being investigated for pain management.
