Journal Club: Surfactin is a cyclic lipopeptide microbial metabolite produced by Bacillus subtilis that acts as a biosurfactant among other interesting activities. S.C. Yang and coworkers just reported in Br. J. Pharmacology that a C13 surfactin analog (designated IA-1) acted as a formyl peptide receptor antagonist that inhibited neutrophil inflammatory responses and ameliorated lung damage in an LPS-induced ARDS mouse model.
