Journal Club: A paper just out in J. Proteomics by Herman Sintim and coworkers at Purdue sheds new light on the signaling roles of the cyclic dinucleotide 2′,3′-cGAMP. Over and above STING activation, it was shown to upregulate Arginase 2 and RIG-1 as well as proteins involved in ISGylation while downregulating ubiquitin-conjugating enzyme UBE2C. A plethora of kinases were differentially phosphorylated as well. This study clearly shows that 2′,3′-cGAMP has much broader activity than heretofore appreciated.
