C8-dihydroceramide (C8-dhCer; 145774-33-0) is a cell permeable, saturated ceramide analog. Unlike C8-Cer it does not stimulate ceramide-activated protein kinase1 nor does it induce apoptosis2 and therefore may be used as a negative control in experiments focused on the cellular activity of C8-ceramide3. C8-dhCer is a substrate for dihydroceramide desaturase.4
