Is coffee good for your brain? N-Eicosanoyl-serotonin (EHT), a novel natural product found in coffee, has been shown to have a protective effect in models of Parkinson’s disease and Lewy body dementia. Mechanistically, EHT activates PP2A, which results in hypophosphorylated α-synuclein. Interestingly, caffeine synergizes with EHT, suggesting that these two coffee compounds work together in protecting the brain against α-synuclein-mediated toxicity.
