Journal Club: In the February issue of Nature Cancer, CJ Bergin and coworkers from the University of Ottawa demonstrated that vanoxerine (GBR-12909), a well-known dopamine transporter (DAT) inhibitor that down-regulates G9a histone methyltransferase expression, suppresses cancer stem cell functions in colon tumors. Furthermore, the drug enhanced tumor lymphocytic infiltration. The study reveals a direct implication of the DAT-G9a axis in the maintenance of cancer stem cell populations.
