FOCUS on Drug Repurposing. A study just published in Neuron suggests the HIV drug Maraviroc (a CCR5 antagonist) may be useful for the treatment of glioblastoma (GBM). The authors showed that CCR5 signaling promotes GBM tumor cell growth and CCR5 is preferentially expressed in glioma stem-like cells (GSCs). Targeting CCR5 with either genetic knockdown or the approved drug Maraviroc impairs GSC stemness and prolongs survival in GBM models.
Focus Biomolecules offers Maraviroc for research applications.
