A small molecule that binds DNA at one bis-intercalation site can affect binding by another moiety nearby. WP631 is a novel bis-intercalating daunomycin dimer and potent cytotoxic agent that inhibits Sp1-activated transcription. It blocks Sp1-DNA interaction and gene transcription by binding to a GC-rich consensus site.
