Stem cell research news

Published by Focus Biomolecules on July 1, 2025

FOCUS on Stem Cell Rejuvenation. In the current issue of Cell Stem Cell, a group from Stanford reported that an endogenous eicosanoid, prostaglandin E2 (PGE2) reversed aged muscle stem cell dysfunction leading to increased regeneration and strength in mice.
In a related development, Zhang et al. and Shu et al. showed that blocking metabolism of PGE2 with SW033291 ameliorated age-related muscle atrophy and heart failure.
PGE2 is inactivated by oxidation to the 15-Keto metabolite via 15-Hydroxyprostaglandin dehydrogenase (15-PGDH) which is potently inhibited by SW033291, thus prolonging the half-life of endogenously released PGE2 in vivo.
FOCUS Biomolecules supplies Prostaglandin E2 and SW033291, as well as Stem cell modulators, for research applications as well as many other small molecules for stem cell research.
