Cholesterol is the primary sterol in all eukaryotes and is the precursor to bile acids, steroid hormones, vitamin D, and other important biomolecules. Many of the intermediate products of cholesterol metabolism (oxysterols) are themselves important signaling molecules involved in stem cell fate, inflammatory and immune processes, neurodegeneration and are endogenous ligands for a wide variety of cellular receptors. The IntelliscreenTM Cholesterol Metabolites mini-library is a useful tool for exploring the biology of these important molecules or as a reference for monitoring their presence in biological samples.
