Antibacterials

Antibacterials (or antibiotics) are natural or synthetic compounds that kill (bactericidal) or block the growth (bacteriostatic) of bacteria. They target fundamental biochemical pathways that bacteria use for production of structural components such as cell wall as well as biosynthesis of macromolecules such as proteins and nucleic acids. Modulation of cell membrane permeability is another common target of many antibacterial agents.
