Chaperones

Molecular chaperones are proteins that aid in the folding of newly synthesized polypetide chains and translocation of proteins across membranes. Heat shock proteins such as HSP70 and HSP90 have important roles in proteostasis and protein folding ( and thus function), transportation (and thus location in the cell), and proper degradation. Dysfunctioning chaperones play roles in neurodegeneration, cancer, and autoimmune disease.
