‘Natural products’ are a fascinating and diverse group of bioactive molecules that are produced by living organisms. These types of compounds are typically divided into two classes: primary metabolites, used for intrinsic function of the producing organism and secondary metabolites, used to increase the competitiveness of the organism within its environment.
