Proteases

Proteases hydrolyze α-peptide bonds of proteins, either at the terminal amino acid (exoprotease) or an internal amino acid (endoprotease). Some proteases instead cleave isopeptide bonds (e.g. DUBs) or γ-glutamyl bonds (e.g. glutamate carboxypeptidase). Proteases play roles in development, wound healing, pregnancy, and many other processes, making them therapeutic targets for diseases such as cancer, inflammation, and infectious disease.
